Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we are getting ready to start the new school year, I would like to remind you of the importance of your child's Physical Education. Physical Education in schools is the foundation of an active and healthy lifestyle for all students. Physical Education provides students with the skills and attitudes that promote lifelong healthy habits. Here at P.S. 18 your son/daughter will participate in various activities throughout the school year. In addition, I will be sending home an Individual Skills Assessment at the end of each unit. This will give you an in depth view into how your child performed on specific skills, as well as his/her progress in Physical Education.
In order to establish a positive, safe learning environment for all students it is important that your child must wear sneakers to participate in Physical Education. This will ensure his/her safety.
This year again your children will be participating in the Mighty Milers Walking Program that has been very successful the past 2 years here at P.S. 18. The students love being rewarded with prizes for being healthy and active. The Mighty Milers Program is an incentive based walking program that takes place for five to to ten minutes in the beginning of each period.
You as a parent can help contribute to your child's healthy lifestyle by packing at least one healthy snack in his/her lunchbox each day. Fresh fruits and vegetables are preferred if possible. My goal is to have all our students involved in promoting lifelong healthy eating habits for each student. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mr. LaRocca
